Waiver Support Coordinator
WHAT TO EXPECT FROM YOUR WAIVER SUPPORT COORDINATOR
- Your support coordinator is someone who should want to get to know you, someone who is interested in you, and someone who understands the importance of living the life you want to live.
- Your support coordinator should help advocate for the direction that you want to take in your life and be someone you can always count on.
- Your support coordinator should be respectful, responsive, understanding, patient and caring.
- Your support coordinator should be resourceful.
- Your support coordinator might not have the answers for a problem at that moment, but should make you feel secure that he/she is right there with you and will be there until the problem is solved - you're not alone.
- Your support coordinator should be someone that calls you back, visits with you regularly, listens to you, and really gets to know all about you.
- Your support coordinator should never tell you what to do, but should help to ensure your health and safety in a manner that is respectable and dignified.
- Your support coordinator should take an interest in you, the people in your life, and help your team work together to achieve what you want.
- Your support coordinator should be a person you look forward to seeing, who provides a sense of security and stability in your life and who you want to keep around for a long time.
- Your support coordinator is someone to help you navigate the services, supports and providers that are available through the iBudget Medicaid Waiver program and any other available resources in your area. Your WSC should have a thorough understanding of the budget that APD has allocated for your services, and if that budget is not sufficient then your WSC should understand the process in place in order to obtain the additional funding that you need.
